By employing the forward-scattering technique to calculate the atmospheric extinction coefficient—and subsequently the visibility—this portable, all-in-one device is ready for use immediately upon startup. It features a touchscreen interface, local data storage, and a robust aluminum alloy housing, making it ideal for emergency response, road traffic monitoring, and field meteorological observations.

The device measures the total atmospheric extinction coefficient via the forward-scattering method to derive visibility values. It is well-suited for various mobile monitoring scenarios, including emergency response, road traffic patrols, and field meteorological inspections, allowing for rapid deployment at temporary outdoor locations. Its integrated, lightweight design eliminates the need for complex on-site installation or calibration; the unit begins monitoring as soon as it is powered on, significantly reducing preparation time for field operations.

Equipped with a 10.1-inch high-brightness touchscreen, the detector ensures clear visibility of real-time data even in strong ambient light. The screen also displays historical monitoring trends, enabling personnel to intuitively track visibility changes on-site. An internal 8GB SD card automatically saves monitoring data in real-time, with support for local retrieval and data export, facilitating subsequent archiving and analysis. A high-capacity lithium battery allows the device to operate independently of mains power, meeting the requirements for field-based emergency monitoring where external power sources are unavailable.

Constructed with a high-quality aluminum alloy housing, the unit is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant, ensuring stable performance in challenging outdoor conditions such as fog, dust, or high humidity. An integrated "watchdog" circuit maintains system stability during extended periods of continuous outdoor operation, minimizing the risk of monitoring interruptions due to software anomalies. Furthermore, the communication and power interfaces are designed with lightning protection to mitigate hardware damage from lightning strikes or static electricity, thereby enhancing the device's reliability for field use.

The 20km portable visibility detector operates on a 24V power supply and features low overall power consumption, supporting long-term, continuous operation. The device features an RS232 digital communication interface and supports proactive data transmission, eliminating the need for additional protocol adaptation and facilitating seamless integration with on-site data acquisition systems. It offers a measurement range of up to 20 km with a resolution of 1 m. The measurement accuracy is strictly controlled: ±2% for distances up to 2 km, ±5% for the 2 km to 10 km range, and ±10% for distances exceeding 10 km—meeting the precision requirements for on-site visibility monitoring in sectors such as transportation, meteorology, and emergency response.

This 20 km portable visibility detector overcomes the site limitations of fixed monitoring stations. It is well-suited for use at the scenes of temporary or emergency incidents, for road-based fog patrols, and for field meteorological surveys or experiments. It provides on-site personnel with reliable, recordable atmospheric visibility data, supporting informed decision-making and safety management in the field.
