Precision Snow/Rain Gauge is capable of monitoring all types of precipitation—including liquid, solid, and mixed solid-liquid phases. It features a real-time precipitation intensity measurement range of 6 to 1800 mm/h and a cumulative precipitation range of 0.2 to 1500 mm, with an RS485 interface resolution of 0.01 mm. It is ideally suited for outdoor, all-weather detection of both rainfall and snowfall.
In fields such as meteorological observation, hydrological monitoring, and agricultural irrigation management, the accurate acquisition of precipitation and snowfall data constitutes a fundamental requirement. Traditional tipping-bucket rain gauges face inherent challenges when measuring solid precipitation, such as snow accumulation and delayed melting; furthermore, their mechanical components are prone to failure in low-temperature environments. Designed based on the weighing principle, Precision Snow/Rain Gauge enables the automated measurement of all precipitation types—whether liquid, solid, or mixed-phase. The sensor employs high-precision weighing elements to continuously monitor changes in the weight of precipitation within its collection bucket in real time. By correlating this weight data with the bucket's aperture area, it accurately converts the measurement into a precipitation value, which is then stored in an internal data logger. This design allows for continuous, all-weather operation without the need for manual supervision.
The measurement capabilities of Precision Snow/Rain Gauge cover the full spectrum of precipitation monitoring requirements—ranging from the faintest drizzle to torrential downpours, and from sporadic light snow to heavy blizzards. Its real-time precipitation intensity measurement range spans from 6.00 to 1800.00 mm/h, while its cumulative precipitation range covers 0.2 to 1500.00 mm. The device outputs measurement data via an RS485 interface, offering a high resolution of 0.01 mm for cumulative precipitation and 0.01 mm/min for intensity. Additionally, the weighing-type sensor features an automatic heating function: whenever the ambient temperature drops below a preset threshold, a heating module activates automatically to melt any accumulated snow within the collection bucket into liquid water prior to measurement. This effectively prevents data interruptions caused by the accumulation of solid precipitation. In terms of mechanical design, the unit features an open-top collection bucket and a modular component assembly structure, a combination that not only ensures high measurement accuracy but also minimizes the frequency of on-site maintenance. The environmental adaptability of the Precision Snow/Rain Gauge has been specifically engineered to withstand harsh outdoor operating conditions. The complete unit operates within a temperature range of -35°C to +65°C and tolerates humidity levels ranging from 0% to 95% RH, thereby meeting the meteorological and environmental monitoring requirements of most regions across China. Its sealed enclosure, rated at IP67, effectively prevents the ingress of rain and dust into the device's interior. Furthermore, the sensor is equipped with a wind compensation algorithm that ensures data stability even in high-wind environments. An optional solar power module is available, guaranteeing continuous operation in remote field locations where access to mains electricity is unavailable. By integrating two data transmission methods—RS485 wired communication and 4G wireless transmission—administrators can monitor precipitation dynamics across multiple sites in real-time from a central monitoring station. Whether measuring torrential rainfall intensity in the rainy southern regions or monitoring the snowmelt process in the frigid northern highlands, the Precision Snow/Rain Gauge consistently delivers continuous and precise precipitation data.
